5 Reasons Why Kamala Beach Could be Phuket’s Best Hidden Secret

Posted on 20/09/2018 by Yann Gouriou

Once a quaint fishing village, the gently curving 2.5 km stretch of sand of Kamala Beach along Phuket’s west coast has blossomed into a delightful resort town, offering a range of options for retreat and relaxation. We count down five reasons why Kamala Beach may just be Phuket’s best beach location.

Leave the crowds behind

Whether you want to work on your tan, snorkel in the crystal clear azure waters or rent a stand up paddleboard and take to the bay, the relaxed nature of Kamala Bay offers something for everyone. The shallow waters entice swimmers year round and the bay even boasts enough swell to keep keen surfers happy from May to October.

Despite some of it’s more glitzy neighbouring resort towns like Patong, Kata and Bangtao, Kamala has retained a lot more of its rustic charm, holding onto the idyllic village feel and a local touch.

Location, location, location

Kamala beach is perfectly positioned, with all of Phuket’s attractions at your fingertips. The laid back nature of the fishing village remains, making it a favourite amongst families and couples with spectacular weather in the sheltered bay.

Enjoying the quiet life doesn’t mean you need to miss out on some of Phuket’s fun diversions either. The raucous energy of Patong and newly developed club icon Cafe Del Mar are just a few minutes drive away. Beast of all, the journey to the airport takes just 30 minutes.

A natural wonderland

In contrast to many of the other beaches on the island, Kamala beach is not dominated by huge resort buildings towering over the beach. Nestled behind the beach is a throng of trees, providing shaded areas to get away from the heat. All in all, Kamala beach is a favoured destination for those seeking some quiet solitude and wanting to get away from the crowds.

Something for everyone

Enjoy a moment away from the crowds and take in stunning sunsets. Take a romantic walk at dawn across the glistening shoreline. Enjoy a peaceful walk through the surrounding forests. Sip a cocktail from one of the beachside restaurants. Feast with friends and family at one of the beachside barbeques. Whatever your passion, Kamala beach has something for everyone.

A world of flavours

Kamala’s dining scene is dominated by seafood and no visit would be complete without enjoying one of the beachside barbeques, loaded with freshest food, plucked fresh from the ocean. For family friendly fare, there are plenty of options like Kokosnuss Kamala or Charoen Seafood whilst establishments like Silk, Diavolo and Plum provide a range of sophisticated dining options.
